sorry bu2b, but that's utter bullshit. supporting pro choice doesn't mean to prefer abortions over giving birth. it also doesn't mean that one would choose to abort. it means giving a woman the freedom to decide for herself what's best for her and her potential child.

it just doesn't compare. yes, an (intentionally or unintentionally) aborted embryo is nauseating to look at. menstrual blood clots or an amputated leg isn't something i like to look at either. that doesn't mean it compares to the horrors of the holocaust.
in most countries abortion is a choice up to week 12-14. in almost all the world laws against abortion are not enforced if a woman's life is in danger. do you think there may be any good reasons for abortion?

well katewild, i'll in no way defend a holocaust denier, but i know a few people i grew up with are among those and i know they've never done any harm if that's what you are talking about. you seem to confuse holocaust deniers with participants in the holocaust. that said, i am not deluded by them, i think they are ignorant and i also tell them. but this is getting way off topic, the point is that dawkins did NOT make a holocaust comparison, unlike unstopableravens.
abortion is an emotional topic, because many people want to apply the love they had for their unborn baby to a completely different situation. it's not like people run around and say, hey, let's have an abortion just for the fun of it.
katewild, all fundamentalists are potentially dangerous, this applies to christian and muslim creationists as well as holocaust deniers (who often happen to converge). christians of the type of cult USR fell for (just like JWs) tell even worse things than holocaust deniers. they think god wiped out all life on earth save for a handful of humans and 2 to 7 samples of each animal kind. a holocaust denier only believes that that horrible part of human history never happened. a fundamental christian believes that that fictual horrible incident DID happen AND IT WAS A GOOD THING!
anyway, i have met a few holocaust deniers and national socialists, and while i in no way agree with any of what they say, they happened to be nice people otherwise. they didn't participate in any of those cruel acts, they just deliberately chose to not follow the facts, much like creationists do.
it's a long call between comparing two types of ignorants and comparing industrial torture and mass murder to the freedom of choice to remove unwanted or potentially life threatening cells from your own body.
it's just not the same thing. a creationist as well as a holocaust denier ignore historical facts. neither the creationist nor the holocaust denier has to be a bad person, still they are just (deliberately) ignorant.
on the other hand, the holocaust is regarded to have been the most horrible thing that ever happened in human history (which is debatable, but the fact that it happened is not debatable). and you compare this to the removal of inconcious cells, which in most cases is hardly any different from using contraception.

you mean dawkins. and dawkins didn't liken the holocaust to anything, he likened the delusion of creationists to the delusion of holocaust deniers, since both deny historical facts.
